School Of Management Hosting Yale Soccer Conference Feb. 9-10

Two-Day Conference Includes 30 High Profile Presenters From Around The World

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Elite leaders from all facets of business, sports and entertainment industries are coming to Yale's campus on Feb. 9-10 for the Yale Soccer Conference, a student-led conference organized by the Yale School of Management's soccer club, SOM United. The goal of the conference is to promote the role of management in the multi-billion-dollar soccer industry.

Yale Athletics is one of the sponsors of the conference and Thomas A. Beckett Director of Athletics Vicky Chun is scheduled to be one of the speakers. In addition, members of both the Yale men's and women's soccer teams are excited to attend.

"I am thrilled to be a part of the inaugural Yale Soccer Conference hosted by the School of Management," Chun said. "This conference provides an incredible opportunity for all attendees, and especially for our students, to learn about the role of leadership in the global soccer industry, and to discuss ways to utilize it to improve both business and community." 

The theme of the conference is Sustainable Commercialization and Professionalization of Soccer, which provides a unique opportunity for participants to share and discuss best practices, learn about the applicability of latest business practices in soccer and to network.

The two-day conference will host approximately 30 speakers from soccer and soccer-related organizations such as clubs, confederations and corporates (media, apparel, sponsors) as well as business school professors, soccer supporters and (former) players.

Speakers include: ESPN commentator Fernando Palomo, Charlie Stillitano, Chairman of Relevant Sports, Stefan Szymanski, author and soccer economist, Pierre Moosa, coordinating producer of NBC's soccer coverage, and Marta Plana, a board member of FC Barcelona. In addition, Yale professors Diego Von Vacano and Erleen Hatfield will speak.

"I'm really excited for our soccer student-athletes to attend and learn more about the business and entertainment side of our global sport from some of the biggest names in the industry," said Kylie Stannard, The 5K Corral Head Coach of men's soccer at Yale. "This is a fantastic co-curricular opportunity to team up with the Yale School of Management to bring together different groups of the Yale community as well as the local, state and regional soccer community."
