Fans Can Help Choose Name, Participate in Open Tryouts for Yale's New Mascot Character

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Handsome Dan, Yale's live bulldog mascot dating back to 1889, will have some company soon. Yale's new mascot character will be introduced on Jan. 23 at the 7:00 Yale men's basketball game vs. Brown, which is also Youth Day. The Yale athletics department is asking for help from fans in choosing the new mascot character's name and is also hosting open tryouts for those interested in being the mascot.

Fans will be able to vote on-line at yalebulldogs.com and at upcoming Yale athletics home games for their favorite name from among these choices:

  • Blue
  • Boola
  • Danny
  • Eli
  • Super Dan

    The Yale Athletics Department is looking for students who are:

    • Fun, exciting and passionate about Yale Athletics
    • Energetic and enthusiastic
    • Determined to increase Yale fans' energy at games
    • Able to communicate non-verbally with fans of all ages
