Bulldogs Announce 2009-10 Schedule

New Haven, Conn. - The Robert J.H. Kiphuth Director of Swimming Frank Keefe and the Yale University swimming and diving teams have announced their schedule for the upcoming 2009-2010 season. The Bulldogs will compete in 13 meets this season, including 5 home contests.

The men and women both face a challenge right off the blocks, as they get things started with Ivy League rival Columbia in New York Nov. 13th and 14th. Last year, the women lost a hard-fought meet to the Lions to the tune of a heartbreaking 155-145 score, while the men took a convincing 172-128 victory. The women should face an equally tough meet this year, while the men will have to overcome the loss of almost half of their scoring squad while racing a Columbia team that lost very little to graduation.

The Elis then roll into Thanksgiving break with a busy schedule, swimming in the Terrier Invitational at Boston University from Nov. 20-22, only to return to New Haven for a 4 pm date with Southern Connecticut on Monday, Nov. 21. The invitational will give the Bulldogs their first look at the UMass Minutemen, who they will face again upon returning for fall break Dec. 5.

Following that meet, the Bulldogs will not compete again until after winter break, during which they will train in New Haven in preparation for the stretch run. The Elis start off 2010 competitions with a home meet against Cornell on Jan. 10, which is followed by another crucial Ivy League matchup with Penn and Dartmouth in Philadelphia on the 17th.

The last two weeks in January may prove to be the toughest of the season for the Bulldogs. Traditional power Navy comes to town on the 23rd, a team to whom both the men's and women's squads dropped meets in 2009. That meet will be followed by a trip to Princeton the following weekend for a dual meet with Princeton and Harvard, last year's top two finishers in the Ivy League on the men's and women's side, respectively.

Meets against Brown's Bears in Providence on Feb. 3 and at home against UConn's Huskies on Feb. 6 round out the regular season for the Elis, who then shift focus to the Ivy League championships, held Mar. 4-6 at Princeton for the men and at Harvard for the women.

The Zone Diving championships, location to be announced, will be held Mar. 12-14, followed by the NCAAs held through Mar. 18-21 in Columbus, Ohio for the men and in West Lafayette, Indiana at Purdue University for the women.

The Bulldogs' quest to improve on last years' 3rd place finish in the Ivy League for the men and 4th place for the women begins Nov. 13 and 14 in New York City as they look to get off to a good start in the Ivy League against Columbia.
