NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The first-ever
“Team Up to Fight Cancer” initiative, a cooperative
effort of the Yale field hockey, women’s soccer and
volleyball teams, has raised over $2,400 in donations in the spirit
of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The three Bulldogs squads
collected donations and sold special “Team Up to Fight
Cancer” t-shirts at various Yale athletics contests over the
weekend of Oct. 2, with the net proceeds being donated to the Yale
Cancer Center.
“The chance to give back to the community through the
‘Team Up to Fight Cancer’ initiative has been very
rewarding”, said head volleyball coach Erin Appleman, who
organized the event alongside head field hockey coach Pam Stuper
and head women’s soccer coach Rudy Meredith.
“The amazing support of our fans and the Yale community has
shown us that ‘Team Up to the Fight Cancer’ can be a
much larger and even more successful event in the future”,
added Appleman.
In addition to gathering donations, the teams also attended an
informational seminar with Dr. Lyndsay Harris, a breast cancer
research specialist from the Yale Cancer Center.
