Men’s and Women’s Basketball Teams Return to YES Network Next Month
NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Yale University men’s and women’s basketball teams will take center stage next month as “Yale on YES” returns with a winter TV package that includes a pair of featured games that will be broadcast on the YES Network live from the John J. Lee Amphitheater.
Both teams have postseason hopes in 2011-12, and they will both get a chance to showcase their talents on national television. The YES Network is carried by most of the region’s cable operators, as well as on DirecTV, Verizon FiOS and AT&T U-Verse. It is distributed nationally on DirecTV, AT&T U-verse, Verizon FiOS and select cable operators.
The women’s basketball team, which earned its first-ever berth in the Women’s National Invitational Tournament last season, is expected to challenge for their first Ivy League championship since 1979 and the automatic NCAA berth that comes with it, as well as the race for second place, and the automatic bid to the WNIT that goes to the Ivy League’s runner-up. The Bulldogs kick off the “Yale on YES” two-game affair with their home game against Ivy League rival Dartmouth on Friday, Feb. 17, at 7 p.m.
Like the women, the men’s basketball team is in the hunt for the Ivy League crown. The Bulldogs were picked second, along with Princeton, in the Ivy League preseason poll behind league favorite Harvard. The Bulldogs will close out the “Yale on YES” winter package with their home game against Ivy League foe Columbia on Friday, Feb. 24, at 7 p.m.
The YES Network, the most-watched regional sports network in the country the past eight years, features telecasts of the 27-time World Champion New York Yankees and the New Jersey Nets. The network is available in New York, Connecticut, New Jersey and Pennsylvania on cable, DirecTV, AT&T U-verse and Verizon FiOS, and is also available nationally on DirecTV, AT&T U-verse, Verizon FiOS and select cable operators.
