Summer 2018 PROGRAM REGISTRATION IS LIVE

As you review the schedule below, please note the following:

-       Youth participants may only signup for one program during the summer

-       If the program you select is full, please signup for the waitlist and then register for your 2nd choice

-       Prior experience is required for all programs except our learn to row programs 

WHILE THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL IS STILL UP IN THE AIR FOR MANY SCHOOLS, A QUICK NOTE ABOUT SELECTING A PROGRAM THAT STARTS DURING OUR FIRST WEEK.

-       THE PROGRAM START DATE WILL NOT CHANGE

-       EVERY EFFORT WILL BE MADE TO CATCH PARTICIPANTS UP

-       ONCE YOU KNOW YOUR LAST DAY OF SCHOOL, IF YOU WILL BE MISSING MORE THAN 3 DAYS OF A ONE-WEEK PROGRAM, PLEASE CONTACT US.  EVERY EFFORT WILL BE MADE TO CHANGE YOUR SELECTED WEEK

Learn to Row CLICK HERE TO BE TAKEN TO OUR REGISTRATION PAGE

  • Youth participants may only signup for one program during the summer
  • Open to children ages 10 to 15 years old (*participants entering high school may be interested in our Learn to Row High School Program – see below)
  • Each learn to row session is 45 minutes, programs run Monday through Friday
  • Attendance is important, please register for a session that you feel you will be able to attend all five days of
  • Children need not have any prior rowing experience or previous athletic experience
  • Participants are taught basic rowing form and technique on indoor rowing equipment
  • Instruction then progresses on the water with our rowing training barges where participants learn boat and rowing terminology as well as continue to improve upon their rowing technique
  • During on-the-water instructions, participants will never enter into the water and therefore bathing suits are not needed
  • Coaches and lifeguard are present at all times during instruction and training barges are equipped with life jackets
  • Proper attire is athletic wear, please make sure to wear sneakers and bring a water bottle
  • There is no fee for this program
  • All programs are limited to a certain capacity, please check specific week for max number of participants
  • All sessions take place at Gilder Boathouse, 280 Roosevelt Drive, Derby CT 06418
  • NOTE: Priority registration will be given to youth living in Derby, Ansonia, Shelton, Seymour, Sandy Hook, Newtown, Oxford and Monroe.

HIGH SCHOOL LEARN TO ROW  CLICK HERE TO BE TAKEN TO OUR REGISTRATION PAGE

 

  • Youth participants may only signup for one program during the summer
  • This is program is open to children who are currently in high school or will be starting high school in the fall
  • The program is ideal for high school aged children who do not have any prior rowing experience (no previous athletic experience is necessary)  
  • (For those participants who have previously taken part in one of our learn to row programs and will be in high school, please see our two different high school programs below)
  • Each learn to row session is 1 hour long, programs run Monday through Friday and runs for two weeks
  • Attendance is important, please register for a session that you feel you will be able to attend all five days of for the full two weeks
  • Participants are extensively taught basic rowing form and technique on indoor rowing equipment
  • Fitness is improved upon with the use of land workouts and indoor rowing equipment
  • Instruction then progresses on the water with our rowing training barges where participants learn boat and rowing terminology as well as continue to improve upon their rowing technique and fitness
  • Participants will become familiar with the traditional rowing equipment, shells and oars
  • The ultimate goal is to progress out of the training barges and into the rowing shells by the end of the second week
  • During on-the-water instructions, participants will never enter into the water and therefore bathing suits are not needed
  • Coaches and lifeguard are present at all times during instruction and training barges are equipped with life jackets.  Lifeguard and coaching launches are also equipped with life jackets.
  • Proper attire is athletic wear, please make sure to wear sneakers and bring a water bottle
  • There is no fee for this program
  • All programs are limited to either 8 participants (please check specific week for max number of participants)
  • All sessions take place at Gilder Boathouse, 280 Roosevelt Drive, Derby CT 06418

The following youth programs are reserved for participants with previous rowing experience (either participating in one of our programs from a previous summer or experience with another rowing program).

  • Each session of our 7th grade program is 1 hour long, programs run Monday through Friday and runs for two weeks
  • Attendance is important, please register for a session that you feel you will be able to attend all five days of for the full two weeks
  • Participants are extensively taught basic rowing form and technique on indoor rowing equipment
  • Fitness is improved upon with the use of land workouts and indoor rowing equipment
  • Instruction then progresses on the water with our rowing training barges where participants learn boat and rowing terminology as well as continue to improve upon their rowing technique and fitness
  • Participants will be introduced to the traditional rowing equipment, shells and oars

  • This program is open to children will be entering 8th grade in the fall AND have previously completed one of our learn to row programs
  • Each session is 1 ½  hour long, programs run Monday through Friday and runs for either two or three weeks
  • Attendance is important, please register for a session that you feel you will be able to attend all five days of for the full program
  • Participants are extensively taught basic rowing form and technique on indoor rowing equipment
  • Fitness is improved upon with the use of land workouts and indoor rowing equipment
  • Instruction then progresses on the water with our rowing training barges where participants learn boat and rowing terminology as well as continue to improve upon their rowing technique and fitness
  • Participants will be introduced to the traditional rowing equipment, shells and oars
  • By the end of the third week, participants will have transitioned into rowing in the traditional shells
  • During on-the-water instructions, participants will never enter into the water and therefore bathing suits are not needed
  • Coaches and lifeguard are present at all times during instruction and training barges are equipped with life jackets.  Lifeguard and coaching launches are also equipped with life jackets.
  • Proper attire is athletic wear, please make sure to wear sneakers and bring a water bottle
  • There is no fee for this program
  • All programs are limited to 20 participants
  • All sessions take place at Gilder Boathouse, 280 Roosevelt Drive, Derby CT 06418
  • NOTE: Priority registration will be given to youth living in Derby, Ansonia, Shelton, Seymour, Sandy Hook, Newtown, Oxford and Monroe.

  • Open to children who will be entering high school in the fall, or who just completed their senior year of high school AND have previously completed one of our learn to row programs
  • Each session is 1 ½  hour long, programs run Monday through Friday and runs for either TWO or FOUR weeks (depending upon which session is selected)
  • Session #1a is a two week programs and is designed to be a beginner program that focuses on the recreational exposure to the sport of rowing
  • Session #2a and #2b are both four week programs and are designed to be a more intensive program that focuses on improving fitness and is designed to be more competitive in nature
  • Attendance is important, please register for a session that you feel you will be able to attend all five days of for extent of all the weeks
  • Participants are extensively taught basic rowing form and technique on indoor rowing equipment
  • Fitness is improved upon with the use of land workouts and indoor rowing equipment
  • Instruction then progresses on the water with both our rowing training barges and traditional rowing shells; where participants learn boat and rowing terminology as well as continue to improve upon their rowing technique and fitness
  • During on-the-water instructions, participants will never enter into the water and therefore bathing suits are not needed
  • Coaches and lifeguard are present at all times during instruction and training barges are equipped with life jackets.  Lifeguard and coaching launches are also equipped with life jackets.
  • Proper attire is athletic wear, please make sure to wear sneakers and bring a water bottle
  • There is no fee for this program
  • All sessions take place at Gilder Boathouse, 280 Roosevelt Drive, Derby CT 06418

High School 1A  Recreational Rowing – 2 weeks June 18-June 29      6:30-8:00am    capacity 30

High School 2A  Intensive Rowing – 4 weeks July 2 – July 27 (07/04) 6:30-8:00am    capacity 30

  • Open to individuals 18 years old and older
  • Each learn to row session is 1 hour, programs run Monday through Friday
  • Attendance is important, please register for a session that you feel you will be able to attend all five days of
  • Participants need not have any prior rowing experience or previous athletic experience
  • Two ADVANCED level weeks are being offered and both are intended for those with previous rowing experience either in our program or another program. 
  • Participants are taught basic rowing form and technique on indoor rowing equipment
  • Instruction then progresses on the water with our rowing training barges where participants learn boat and rowing terminology as well as continue to improve upon their rowing technique
  • Participants will be introduced to the traditional rowing equipment, shells and oars
  • By the end of the week, all efforts will have been made to allow participants the opportunity to experience rowing in traditional shells
  • During on-the-water instructions, participants will never enter into the water and therefore bathing suits are not needed
  • Coaches and lifeguard are present at all times during instruction and training barges are equipped with life jackets
  • Proper attire is athletic wear, please make sure to wear sneakers and bring a water bottle
  • There is a $50 fee for this program.  Payment information will accompany confirmation.
  • All programs are limited to either 8 or 12 participants (please check specific week for max number of participants)
  • All sessions take place at Gilder Boathouse, 280 Roosevelt Drive, Derby, CT 06418
  • Adult Learn to Row participants may register for more than one program ($50 fee applies PER session)
