Yale University Athletics Compliance
Yale University's commitment to excellence extends beyond
the classroom into all endeavors, including athletics, that
contribute to a rich and broad liberal education. As a proud member
of the Ivy League, the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference
(ECAC), and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA),
the Yale University Department of Athletics aims to further this
mission by creating and sustaining an athletics program consistent
with the values and in compliance with the rules and regulations
set forth by the University and these governing bodies.
The Yale University athletics compliance program consists of three major components: rules education, monitoring systems, enforcement.
Rules
Education
Yale University seeks to educate its constituencies,
including but not limited to, student-athletes, coaches, athletics
staff members, University staff members outside of athletics, and
representatives of athletics interests (boosters) regarding Ivy,
ECAC, and Yale University rules and regulations. The primary
methods of rules education are monthly newsletters, regular email
tips, brochures, and compliance-related sessions at various staff
meetings. Additionally, rules interpretations and education are
provided in a timely manner throughout the year as well as when
questions arise from any constituency. A broad-based rules
education program provides the foundation and culture necessary to
cultivate, sustain, and enhance a successful program.
Monitoring
Systems
The Yale athletics compliance program monitors various activities,
including but not limited to, amateurism, recruiting, eligibility,
financial aid, and extra benefits. Monitoring systems are in place
to ensure rules compliance and maintain accurate records of
athletics activities at Yale University.
Enforcement
Enforcement is a necessary component to a successful
athletics compliance program. Enforcement action will be taken when
any institutional, conference, or NCAA rules violations occur and
such action will be consistent with the standards of the
appropriate governing body.
