Thanks to the generous leadership gifts from Sam Heyman '60 and the
estate of the late Joseph Cullman 3rd, we have realized one of the
greatest dreams for our men's and women's tennis programs. The new
Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center was dedicated Nov. 1, 2008. The new
home of Yale Tennis is a fabulous eight-court facility for our
current teams and the entire Yale/New Haven tennis community. It
also is a wonderful venue to showcase the rich history of tennis at
Yale.
The project includes a new building with four new courts with a spectacular viewing area and lobby. The new building attaches to the current four courts in the Cullman facility. Additionally, we renovated the current four-court facility to include team locker rooms, a team room and coaches' offices.
Our coaches, Alex Dorato and Danielle Lund McNamara, are
thrilled this project.
"We have eight courts and one of the best indoor facilities in the
Ivy League," they said "We think it's what we need to take the next
big step toward becoming a top national program. We will be able to
host the top regional events, and we will be able to provide our
players with all the practice space that they need. Ultimately, we
believe our new facility will help us attract the recruits that we
need to become year-in and year-out contenders for the Ivy League
title. We're so thankful for the support of the Heyman and Cullman
families as well as the Yale Tennis Association."
