Mason LaPlante,
Jimmy Chatfield and
Colton Shaw all reached base twice for the Bulldogs in a 9-0 season-opening loss at Auburn tonight.
Chatfield, LaPlante and Shaw all had singles and drew a walk for Yale. Â
AJ Gaich also singled for the Bulldogs.  Â
Mick Kelley came on in relief and allowed one earned run over four innings. Â
Grant Kipp started and took the loss for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs had runners in scoring position in three straight innings. Yale loaded the bases with three straight singles in the fifth. Â
Chatfield lined a single to left, Shaw followed with a hit to right and Gaich beat out an infield hit before Auburn starter Jordan Armstrong escaped the jam. In the sixth, LaPlante led off with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch and was left stranded. Â
In the next inning, Chatfield drew a one-out walk and Shaw followed with another free pass. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch before Auburn retired the final two hitters of the inning.Â
Auburn (4-1) scored in each of the first four innings and led 6-0. Â Kelley came on to hold the TIgers scoreless over the next two innings. Â
The two teams return to action tomorrow for the second game of the series. Â First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. Eastern Time.Â
