Jake Gehri launched four home runs to set an Ivy League mark and led the Bulldogs to 13-6 victory at Princeton on Sunday afternoon.
The victory completed a three-game sweep against the Tigers and improved Yale's record to 11-6 overall and 3-0 in conference play. The Bulldogs have won 9 of 11.
"Three team wins that were very satisfying," Yale head coach
John Stuper said. "When we didn't hit much in the first game, we pitched it. The last two games were a combination of both. We are finding ways to win."
Gehri's historic stat line: four home runs, two grand slams and 11 RBI while going 4 for 5 at the plate. The four home runs mark the first time it was done in an Ivy League conference game.
His day at the plate started in the second with a two-run shot to left to give Yale a 3-0 lead. In the third, Gehri cleared the bases for his first grand slam of the day to give Yale an 8-1 edge.
Gehri led off the sixth with a homer and capped his standout day in the seventh with his second grand slam of the day to make it 13-3.
"Hard to come up with words to describe
Jake Gehri's performance," added Stuper. "It's no secret he's been struggling a bit at the plate. But I'm incredibly proud of the way he has not let his offensive struggles affect his catching. He is catching better than I've ever seen him. Leading. But he had an historic day at the plate today. Wow."
Colton Shaw (1-2) pitched seven effective innings allowing three runs and seven hits to earn his first victory of his college career. He struck out eight and did not walk a batter.
Mason LaPlante remained hot at the plate and led off the game with a homer. He went 2 for 5 with two runs, a RBI and extended his hit streak to six games.
Carson Swank scored three times and drove in a run, while
Jimmy Chatfield reached base four times and scored two runs. Chatfield has reached base in all 17 games this season.
Up next, the Bulldogs host Sacred Heart on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. at George H.W. Bush '48 Field.
