The No. 2 Yale coed sailing team will race the ICSA/APS Team Race National Championship for the Walter C. Wood Trophy this Saturday through Monday in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Yale Honors Seven Seniors and One Team with Annual Awards at Senior Reception
Seven seniors and one team were honored by the Yale Athletics Department with awards at the annual senior student-athlete reception Saturday afternoon at the Lanman Center in Payne Whitney Gymnasium. The women’s fencing team earned the Brodhead Award for highest team grade point average. Sam Haig (Greenwich, Conn.) of the men’s squash team, Heather May (Newport Beach, Calif.) of the coed and women’s sailing teams and Alyssa Zupon (Basking Ridge, N.J.) of the women’s ice hockey team were the recipients of the Ford Student-Athlete Community Outreach Award. Dakota McCoy (Wexford, Pa.) of the women’s track and field team and Patrick O’Keefe (Pittsford, N.Y.) of the lightweight crew team were the recipients of the Kiphuth Student-Athlete Distinction Award. Lexy Adams (Lancaster, Pa.) of the field hockey team and Collin Bibb (San Antonio, Texas) of the football team were the recipients of the Meyer Humanitarian Award.

No. 2 Bulldogs Qualify for Team Race Nationals
The No. 2 Yale coed sailing team placed fourth at the Fowle Trophy this weekend, qualifying for the ICSA Team Race National Championships. This means the Bulldogs have qualified for all six national championships this fall and spring season.

Yale senior co-ed sailor Cameron Cullman remembers taking his first adventure on the water at the age of six, when his father put him in a small boat, pushed it off the dock, and challenged him by saying, “OK, now try to come back.”

Five Bulldogs Earn All-New England Honors
At the conclusion of the Fowle Trophy this weekend, the All-New England honors were announced for the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association. Five members of the Yale coed sailing team received honors.

No. 2 Bulldogs Sail New England Championship
The No. 2 Yale coed sailing team will sail to qualify for its third national championship this spring, sailing in the New England Team Race Championship hosted by Harvard. The top four finishers from this regatta advance to ICSA Team Race Nationals.

No. 6 Bulldogs Win National Semifinals
The No. 6 Yale coed sailing team won the Western Semifinals this weekend sailing in Norkfolk, Va., at a regatta hosted by Hampton. This victory qualifies the Bulldogs for the Gill/ICSA Coed Dinghy National Championships this May.

The No. 1 Yale coed sailing team placed sixth at the New England Dinghy Championship this weekend at Brown. The Bulldogs also placed third at the Oberg Trophy at Boston University, and two separate teams sailing for Yale placed second and seventh at the Short Beach Invitational.

The No. 1 Yale coed sailing team will take its first step towards qualifying for the Gill/ICSA Dinghy Championships by sailing in the New England Dinghy Championship at Brown this weekend. Yale will also send teams to the Oberg Trophy hosted by Boston University and the Short Beach Invitational, which will be sailed at home.

The No. 1 Yale coed sailing team won the Owen, Mosbacher and Knapp Trophies hosted by the US Naval Academy, the ICSA equivalent of Ivy League Championships. The Bulldogs also placed eighth at the Boston Dinghy Cup, cohosted by Harvard and MIT, and third at Central Series Two, hosted by Boston University.

The No. 1 Yale coed sailing team will send teams to defend four trophies this weekend as well as compete in its first Central Series of the season. The Bulldogs will compete at the Boston Dinghy Cup hosted by MIT and Harvard and the Owen, Mosbacher and Knapp Trophies hosted by the US Naval Academy, hoping to repeat their victories at these events from last year. Yale will also compete at Central Series Two held at Boston University.

The No. 3 Yale coed sailing team won its first fleet race of the season: the Truxtun Umstead Intersectional hosted by the US Naval Academy. This is the second year in a row the Bulldogs have returned from the “Trux” as champions.

After a week of training in St. Petersburg, Fla., the No. 3 Yale coed sailing team will compete this weekend at the Truxtun Umsted Intersectional hosted by the US Naval Academy. The Bulldogs won this event last year, and will be looking to repeat the performance.

Yalies Medal at Miami Sailing World Cup
Four Yale alumni stood on the podium at the Miami Sailing World Cup awards ceremony this past Saturday. Zachary Brown ’08 won a gold medal in the men’s 49er class, Molly Carapiet ’06 won bronze in the women’s 49er FX, Sarah Lihan ’10 won bronze in the Nacra 17 mixed multihull and Stu McNay ’05 won gold in the men’s 470 class. In addition, current senior Claire Dennis qualified for Saturday’s medal race and went on to finish eighth overall in the laser radial class.

Beginning this Friday, the No. 3 Yale coed sailing team will compete in the ICSA Match Race National Championship in Fort Worth, Texas. The Fort Worth Boat Club will host the regatta at Eagle Mountain Lake.

Due to Hurricane Sandy, the Atlantic Coast Championship, intended to be sailed this weekend at the King’s Point Merchant Marine Academy, has been cancelled. In its place, the No. 3 Yale coed sailing team will travel to Boston to race an unofficial regatta hosted by MIT.

This past weekend, the Yale coed sailing team won the Erwin Schell Trophy at Brown. This win means that the Bulldogs both won the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association Championships, but they also qualified for Atlantic Coast Championships at King’s Point Merchant Marine Academy at the end of the fall season. Two teams of Bulldogs also placed fifth and sixth at the Dave Perry hosted at home.

During a weekend of keelboat sailing, the No. 2 Bulldogs won the New England Sloop Championship co-hosted by Brown and New York Yacht Club and qualified for the ICSA Sloop National Championship. Yale also placed fifth at the Storm Trysail Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta in Larchmont, N.Y. A team of dinghy sailors placed fifth at the Moody Trophy hosted by the University of Rhode Island.

Olympians Share Experiences in Panel Discussion
Six out of the seven Yale grads that competed at the 2012 Olympic Games shared their experiences in a panel discussion at the Law School Auditorium on Thursday night. Rowers Ashley Brzozowicz ’04, Tess Gerrand ’10, Jamie Redman ’08 and Taylor Ritzel ’10 and sailors Sarah Lihan ’10 and Stuart McNay ’05 took turns reflecting on their time in London, both on and off the water. Moderator Ron Vaccaro ‘04, the current Editorial Director for NBC Sports and NBC Sports Network, led the discussion.

No. 2 Bulldogs Sail for Berth At Sloop Nationals
Many members of the Yale coed sailing team will depart from their usually dinghy racing this weekend to compete in keelboats. Keelboat teams will be sent to the New England Sloop Championship co-hosted by Brown and New York Yacht Club, and to the Storm Trysail Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta at Larchmont Yacht Club. Bulldogs will also race at a more traditional dinghy regatta, the Moody Trophy at the University of Rhode Island.

Teammate junior Max Nickbarg finished 11th at the event. The Yale coed sailing team also placed second at the Hood Trophy at Tufts University and seventh at the Salt Pond Invitational hosted by the University of Rhode Island.

No. 2 Bulldogs Open Fall Season Sailing At Home
The No. 2 Yale coed sailing team has been training hard since Aug. 22 to prepare for the upcoming fall season after a long summer away from the water. After a third-place finish at the Gill/ICSA National Championship, the team is primed to enter the fall season as a formidable opponent. The season opens with the Harry Anderson Trophy, hosted at the McNay Family Sailing Center on Sept. 8-9.
