No. 2 Bulldogs Open Fall Season Sailing At Home

NEW HAVEN, Conn - The No. 2 Yale coed sailing team has been training hard since Aug. 22 to prepare for the upcoming fall season after a long summer away from the water. After a third-place finish at the Gill/ICSA National Championship, the team is primed to enter the fall season as a formidable opponent. The season opens with the Harry Anderson Trophy, hosted at the McNay Family Sailing Center on Sept. 8-9.

Although the team graduated five key members last May, the Bulldogs return with six new members in the class of 2016. Joining the team are skippers Eric Anderson (Wilmette, Ill.) and Marly Isler (La Jolla, Calif.), along with freshmen crews Charlotte Belling (Newport Beach, Calif.), Garrett Farrell (Wallingford, Conn.), Emily Johnson (Grosse Pointe Park, Mich.) and Sanam Rastegar (Weston, Conn.). With significant experience in both keelboat and double handed racing, these freshmen have already begun to contribute greatly to the team.

The Harry Anderson Trophy is the only coed regatta hosted by Yale in the fall season. The regatta is named after alum Harry Anderson '43, who played an instrumental role in developing Yale's collegiate sailing program, as well as promoting college sailing as a whole. Because of this, the home regatta is an especially important event for the Bulldogs. With weather conditions for the weekend still unknown, the exact team being sent to the event has yet to be decided.

The Bulldogs will also be sending a keelboat team to the Pine Trophy Match Race at the US Coast Guard Academy in Colgate 26's. This regatta is the first step on the road to qualifying for the ICSA National Match Race Championship held in Fort Worth, Texas on Nov 16-18. Junior Christopher Segerblom will skipper the team with crews junior Max Nickbarg and freshmen Anderson and Isler.

The regattas will begin at 9:30 am Saturday morning. Results will be available at http://scores.collegesailing.org/f12/
