NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Yale coed sailing team won both the Ivy League Sailing Regatta Championship and the Thompson Trophy this weekend.
The Thompson Trophy, a three division interconference event, was hosted by the Coast Guard Academy. The Bulldogs won the regatta by over 50 points. Seniors Ian Barrows and Clara Robertson dominated A division, finishing 20 points ahead of Stanford. In B division, sophomore skipper Nic Baird and freshman crew Graceann Nicolosi finished second, just two points out of first. Freshman skipper Louisa Nordstrom and senior crew Isabelle Rossi de Leon won C division. The WSW breeze was fairly consistent throughout the weekend, though Saturday was much windier.
At Yale, the Bulldogs won the Owen, Mosbacher and Knapp Trophies, taking home the Ivy League Regatta Championship. The conditions were marginal on Saturday, but luckily a steady 10 knot breeze allowed for many races to be complete on Sunday.
In A division, senior skipper Mitchell Kiss and junior crew Caroline Colwell placed second, just two points behind Brown. Junior skipper Casey Klingler and crews senior Natalya Doris and Chrissie Klingler won B division by eight points, with no score out of the top half of the fleet.
The Bulldogs entered a second team at the Owen as well. In A division, skippers sophomore Nick Hernandez and freshman Dylan DiMarchi competed with sophomore crew Kira Woods. They finished ninth in their division. Junior captain Malcolm Lamphere and senior crew Amelia Dobronyi placed fourth in B division, just a few points out of third.
Next weekend, the Bulldogs will compete in two events hosted by King's Point and MIT/Harvard. The following weekend is the New England Championship, which serves as the national qualifier.
