TAMPA, FL – Senior Malcolm Lamphere and junior Nic Baird finished tenth and ninth in an extremely challenging fleet at the Laser Performance Men's Singlehanded Nationals this weekend. With many of the sailors competing actively in the laser outside of college sailing, with some having intentions of Olympic campaigns, there was little margin for errors to be made.
On Saturday the sailors were met with northeasterly winds ranging from 5-7 knots and strong current due to a full moon.
On Sunday, further challenging conditions persisted with an even lighter breeze and oscillating 75-degree shifts. A total of 12 races were able to be completed in total. Although the Bulldogs did not finish as highly as they had hoped, there is still much dinghy racing to be done.
