Bulldogs Top Five at Atlantic Coast Championship

Bulldogs Top Five at Atlantic Coast Championship

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – After a very, very cold day of competition on Saturday and a warmer but less consistent day of breeze on Sunday, the Yale coed sailing team finished fifth at the Atlantic Coast Championship, the last and most competitive event of the fall season. The Bulldogs came close to a very solid result, finishing within five points of second place and only fourteen out of first.

Sailing in A division was junior Nic Baird and sophomore Graceann Nicolosi. In B, senior captain Malcolm Lamphere split time with first-year Shawn Harvey. Both sailed with first-year crew Sonia Lingos-Utley.

Conditions on the East River were extremely difficult, with upwards of two knots of current and less than two knots of wind at times, it was often difficult to even get around the racecourse let alone compete against other boats. The Bulldogs were caught a couple of times in difficult places, but overall they were able to come away with a good result.

The fall season is now over, and the team will be looking to recover and double-down on schoolwork as well as prepare for next season's team racing focus. The team will have several discussions over the off-season to break down what its plays and strategies will be in this high intensity style of racing.
