NEW HAVEN, CONN. – Yale sailors will not travel far to the final team race regatta of the season until the nationals – the conference championship for the Fowle trophy. NEISA's team racing championship will be held by Connecticut College this weekend, and it will serve as the qualifier to the national championship held at Old Dominion University in May. Only four teams will make it out of the conference, which is notoriously the most difficult conference to qualify out of. Another group will also be sailing at URI at Southern Series 5.
Weather forecasts show good breeze both days, but very cold temperatures. Saturday might bring snow showers all day, with temperatures in the low 30s. Sunday will be slightly warmer. It will be windy, but perhaps a good direction on both rivers to keep it from being particularly shifty.
Competing for the Bulldogs at the Fowle will be skippers senior Malcolm Lamphere, juniors Nic Baird and Nick Hernandez, and first-year Shawn Harvey. Possible crews will be seniors KB Knapp and Claire Huebner, junior Kira Woods, sophomore Graceann Nicolosi, and first-years Sonia Lingos-Utley, Claudia Loiacono and Nicholas Marwell.
The team at URI will be split between Saturday and Sunday, with first years Marwell skippering with Becca Rose crewing, and skipper Martin Tipton with crew Mina Cezairli. On Sunday, senior Patrick Buehler and Emery Wallace will skipper with crews Kathleen Wells and Kathryn Culo.
