PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Bulldogs have finished their last weekend of conference regattas. Points were close at the Hoyt Trophy Regatta, and the Elis came out on top of a tiebreaker, while a first-year team learned the ropes at Tufts, and the sophomores finished mid fleet at URI.
Results for Yale:
Hoyt Trophy – Two Teams Allotted
Team 1 - 5th (173 points)
Team 2 - 9th (199 points)
Hood Trophy - 22nd (425 points)
Salt Pond Invite - 11th (125 points)
Most racing happened on Saturday as the breeze was very light on Sunday. Sailors were met with a cool, northerly breeze, which, in New England, often shows big shifts and sometimes unpredictable puff patterns. The teams that scored the lowest points stayed free of other boats and paid attention to wind patterns over fleet behavior or speed.
Nordstrom and Loiacono had a particularly successful regatta at the Hoyt, finishing second in A division. Nordstrom noted that the key to her success was that she "didn't beat [herself] up about some minor mistakes. Sailing in that condition is hard, and the focus needs to be on how to do the right thing next, instead of what went wrong before."
