NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Yale Sailing Team will be represented at both the Rudkin Team Race Promotional and the annual Ice Breaker Fleet Race this weekend. The former will be held at Eckerd College in Tampa, Fla., while the latter will be sailed in much colder conditions at Tufts University in Middlesex County, Mass. Many of the top-ranked Bulldogs will also be in St. Petersburg to practice their team racing expertise with distinguished Yale sailing alumni.
Rudkin Team Race Promotional Sailors:
Ice Breaker Fleet Race Sailors:
The wind at Tufts on Saturday averages in the low to mid teens, while Sunday's racing viability seems much more precarious with a steady wind of 25+ knots and gusts predicted to peak at 40 knots. The near freezing temperatures and forecasted rain might also jeopardize the amount of race sailed.
The team racers will sail in much more favorable conditions, with wind that hovers between 6 and 10 knots for the duration of the regatta. This will enable the Bulldogs to show off their team racing expertise and superb technical skills.
Racing begins on Saturday and can be followed live at https://collegesailing.org/
