The Yale sailing team won the Friis Trophy, finished second at the BU team race in Boston, and took 13th at the Vietor in New London last weekend.
For both team races, sailing was cancelled on Saturday due to severely high wind speeds, but sailors at the Vietor toughed it out in 20+ knots and near freezing temperatures.
Yale's Results and Team:
Friis Team Race – Roger Williams University (7/2)
Vietor Trophy (fleet race) – Coast Guard Academy (245 points)
BU Team Race – Boston University (9/3)
The Bulldogs had success in their first test against NEISA teams at the Friis. Despite heavy current and a very shifty breeze direction, they came away with only two losses, beating home team Roger Williams in a sail off to win the event. The Bulldogs are now just over halfway through the regular team race season, but have not practiced at home yet. After a week of rest, they looked a bit rusty, but still came away with the win in difficult conditions.
At BU, Yale's second team came close to beating the Terriers, but fell short in its last race against them. With only four teams, the event got plenty of racing, and the Elis were strong throughout the day. Unfortunately, an aggressive play style from BU caught the team off-guard during the last race.
