Sailing Teams Have One of Best Weekends In History

The coed and women's sailing teams powered to one of their best weekends in history, taking four first places finishes and two second-place standings. Three of Yale's first-place finishes were in major trophy regattas.
The Bulldogs' coed team won the Southern New England Team Race, the Owen Trophy, and an Invite at URI, also taking home second in the Southern Series race, while the women's team earned first at the Emily Wick Trophy and second at the Sloop Shrew Trophy.
Yale's record of 18-5 earned it the win at the Southern New England Team Race, as the Eli squad of Molly Carapiet, Zach Brown, Stu McNay, Meredith Killion, Sarah Himmelfarb, and Jenn Hoyle narrowly edged out second-place Harvard and Brown, both of whom had 17-6 records. The regatta was sailed at Connecticut College
In the Owen Trophy, held at Kings Point, Phil Stemler and Hilary Shapiro came in second in the A division with 66 points and Matt Barry and Hannah Oakland won the B fleet with 75 points to give Yale the overall first place with 141 points, ahead of second-place Dartmouth who finished with 168.
On the women's side, Emily Hill and Abby Coplin finished first in the A Fleet at the Emily Wick Trophy at Harvard, whlie Kendra EMhiser and Eliza Becton's second place finish in the B division propelled Yale to the 1st place victory with 40 points, five better than second place Tufts.
Yale, represented by the same four sailors as in the Emily Wick, earned second in the Sloop Shrew Trophy on the Charles River, earning 82 points to Stanford's 74. Hill and Coplin finished second overall, while Emhiser and Becton saild to a fifth place standing.
In lesser events this weekend, the Elis were similarly dominant. Rufus Peabody, Jason Rabinovitch, Eric Steinlauf, and Karen Chen won an Invite at URI with 94 points to second-place UNH's 111, and also earned second at the Southern Series regatta at URI on Saturday.
