Yale Welcomes Six Freshmen

Group Adds Arms and Infielders to Bulldog Roster

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale baseball team has added six freshmen for the 2011 season, including a two-time all-state left-hander from Alabama, a 6-foot-6 right-hander and the Class B-North Hitter of the Year from New Jersey, an all-district selection from Texas, an All-FCIAC East left-hander from Connecticut and an infielder who was is a former 5A Southern Arizona Player of the Year.

Yale returns 23 of 29 players from last year's squad, which posted the second-best batting average in team history (.323). The incoming class includes four pitchers.

"We are very excited about this incoming class," said John Stuper. "They are versatile and address many of our needs. I think they all will have a chance to contribute to our program right away."

Before Yale: Three-year letterman at The Lawrenceville School in Lawrenceville, N.J. … Helped lead team to back-to-back NJSIAA division state championships in 2009 and 2010 … Second Team All-Prep NJ selection as a senior … Also lettered twice in basketball while captaining the team his senior season.

Before Yale: Four-year letterman at Katy High School in Katy, Texas … All-District Selection in 2008 and 2009 … Voted team captain as a senior … Completed a post-graduate year at Loomis Chaffee in Windsor, Conn., under coach Jeff Ross … All-Founders League selection as a shortstop and relief pitcher … Competed for the Houston Heat Select Baseball program in 2008, 2009 and 2010.

Before Yale: Four-year letterman at Salpointe Catholic High School in Tucson, Az.  … As a junior, was voted the 5A Southern Arizona Player of the Year … Earned 5A First Team All-State and Junior Sunbelt All-Tournament Team honors as a shortstop and pitcher as a junior …  As a senior, was again selected to the 5A Southern Arizona First Team while garnering Second Team 5A All-State honors.
