Ludwig Fans 8 In Stellar Effort Over 8⅓ Innings Of Work

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — The Yale University baseball team took advantage of the break that was the result of yesterday's rainout and returned to the diamond rested and ready to go.

The rest paid off for the Bulldogs who received some ninth-inning heroics from freshman center fielder Cale Hanson to get back on the winning track.

With one out in the bottom of the ninth, Hanson broke a 2-2 tie with an RBI double to lift Yale to a 3-2 win over Toledo at Lake Myrtle Park Friday afternoon.

The Bulldogs avenged Tuesday's 9-4 loss to Toledo with Friday's come-from-behind victory.

Junior right-hander Pat Ludwig started the game for the Bulldogs and kept them within striking distance. He did not factor in the decision, but he allowed only one earned run in 8 innings with eight strikeouts and two walks. Junior closer Eric Shultz worked the final two-thirds of an inning and earned the victory in relief.

The Bulldogs trailed 1-0 when junior right fielder Charlie Neil belted a two-run single in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Yale a 2-1 lead.

The lead was short-lived as the Rockets tied the game with an unearned run in the top of the ninth, which set the stage for Hanson's heroics.

Yale was slated to take on Michigan State Friday night at Lake Myrtle Park.
