NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Historic Yale Field will raise its gates later today on its 84th season as the home field for the Yale University baseball team, as the Bulldogs play host to Central Connecticut to open the 2011 home schedule.
The first pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m., with senior captain Andy Megee slated to open the home slate as the starting pitcher for the Bulldogs, who are in the midst of their 146th season. Dave Krasnowiecki (1-1) is scheduled to take the mound for the Blue Devils.
The Bulldogs and Blue Devils have already met once this season on March 15 in the longest game in Yale history. The Bulldogs led 1-0 heading into the ninth inning, when the Blue Devils scored the tying run to force extra innings. The game went all the way to the 17th inning when Central Connecticut scored to take a 2-1 victory.
Prior to last week's game, Yale had played three 16-inning games, but no game had gone longer until last week.
The Bulldogs have played 13 games to date, opening the season with a 5-8 record. The Bulldogs once again opened the season at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational, starting the Invitational with a 3-3 mark before dropping a pair of games to Michigan State and Ohio State.
Since coming north, Yale is 2-3, which includes the 17-inning loss to CCSU and a split of a pair of doubleheaders at Navy over last weekend.

Yale's pitching staff is led by senior Vinny Lally (1-0), who leads the team in innings pitched (22.2), strikeouts (26), and strikeouts per game (10.3). Senior Brook Hart (1-1) currently owns the Bulldogs' only complete game of the season. He's the team's leader in earned-run average (0.98) and is second, along with junior Pat Ludwig, in strikeouts (16).
Junior Mitch Wells is currently leading the Blue Devils in batting average (.423), slugging percentage (.519), on-base percentage (.492), hits (22), doubles (3), triples (1), total bases (27), RBIs (17), and at-bats (52). Krasnowiecki is currently leading the team in strikeouts (11) and starts (3).
Yale is home for four of the next five games. The Bulldogs are scheduled to host the University of Connecticut, currently ranked 19th in the nation, on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. Yale visits Hartford on Saturday, before hosting the Hawks on Sunday for a doubleheader that begins at noon, followed by a home game against Quinnipiac on March 30 at 3:30 p.m.
