Three Bulldogs Earn Academic All-District Honors

Lally, Brenner Named To First Team; Elmore Selected To Second Team

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Three Yale baseball players have earned 2011 Capital One Academic All-District honors. Pitcher Vinny Lally and catcher Ryan Brenner were voted to the first team, while infielder Gant Elmore was a second team selection.

Lally, an economics major from Tampa, Fla., led the Ivy League in opposing batting average (.175) and innings pitched (67.1), tied for second in strikeouts (70) and was fourth in ERA (2.54). He finished the season with a 5-1 overall record.

Brenner, a political science major from Manhasset, N.Y., appeared in 36 games and batted .306 with nine doubles, one home run and 16 RBI. He also handled a Yale pitching staff that finished with an impressive 3.82 ERA in Ivy games.

Elmore, an economics major from Bloomington, Ill., appeared in 39 games and tied for fourth on the team with 20 runs scored.

First‐team Academic All‐District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All‐America Team ballot, where first‐, second‐ and third‐team All‐America honorees will be selected later this month.
