  • Spring Academic All-Ivy Announced

    The Ivy League has announced its spring Academic All-Ivy honorees, and 10 Bulldogs were recognized. Each were starters or key reserves on an officially recognized varsity team with a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point averages. Each Ivy League institution nominated five men and five women from its eligible student-athletes.

    The 2017 Yale baseball team won two games in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 69 years. That 1948 Bulldog squad had a captain named George H.W. Bush, whose wife, Barbara, was the team’s primary score keeper.

    The best season in the long history of Yale baseball came to an end in the most appropriate of ways. It came a game after setting the school record for wins in a season. It also came a game after the first multiple-victory NCAA Tournament showing since 1948. The final blow was delivered by the clear-cut, best team in the country in their own park, an 8-1 decision for Oregon State before another sell out at Goss Stadium.

    Someone’s win streak had to end in tonight’s NCAA Baseball Regional winner’s bracket showdown between the Oregon State Beavers and Yale. The nation’s No. 1 ranked team increased its streak to 18 games and improved its record to 51-4 before a crowd of 3,474 with an 11-0 victory over a Bulldog squad that had its string of success end at nine contests.

The Bulldogs, who were unranked in the previous NEIBA poll, are now No. 2 in the region. They trail only No. 1 UConn, which received all eight first-place votes.
