Last Time Out
The Bulldogs went 3-1 last week against Ivy League competition to open the conference season. Yale split a pair at Cornell and swept defending Ivy champ Princeton on the road. The Bulldogs received complete-game efforts in all three of their wins -- Scott Politz, Alex Stiegler and Eric Brodkowitz all went the distance in Yale victories. Yale dropped a 5-1 decision to Fairfield on Wednesday in its most recent outing.
Let's Score Some Runs
Entering the weekend, the Bulldogs lead the Ivy League in runs scored. Yale has scored 162 runs in their first 24 games, while Dartmouth is second with 134. Sophomore Tim DeGraw leads the conference with 23 runs scored.
Touch 'Em All
The 2017 Bulldogs have tied last season's total number of home runs. Yale has 18 home runs this season through 24 games. Last season, the Bulldogs had 18 homers in 48 games. Yale's Griffin Dey leads the Ivy League with seven homers and 24 runs batted in.
Freshman Alex Stiegler's first start against the Ivy League was a success. Stiegler tossed a complete-game shutout in the opening game of a doubleheader sweep at Princeton last Monday. He struck out two, allowed three hits and did not walk a batter.
The Bulldogs have scored 13 or more runs five times through 19 games this season. They are 5-0 in those games.
Sophomore righty Scott Politz is one of two Ivy League pitchers with at least five wins in 2017. In his most recent outing last Sunday, Politz limited Cornell to two runs on seven hits with eight strikeouts in a seven-inning complete game performance.
