Wanger earned a spot on the All-Region First Team, while teammate Politz was named to the second team. Both Wanger and Politz were 2017 All-Ivy First Team picks and part of a Yale team that won an Ivy League title and a school-record 34 games, including two in the NCAA Tournament.
"A well deserved recognition for these two guys," Yale head coach John Stuper said. "Scott has been our No. 1 guy for two years and had the best year for a pitcher in my time here. Benny became injured in the first game of the season. When he came back, it was like he was never gone. Without these two, we don't approach the success we had this year. The fact that they are both sophomores makes their coach very happy."
Wanger drove in 35 runs in 20 Ivy League regular season games, and in conference play was among the top five in home runs (5), total bases (50) and slugging percentage (.694). He finished the 2017 season with eight homers and a team-best 48 RBI with a .322 average in 35 games played.
Politz spent the entire season among the nation's leaders in victories. He won the first game of the Ivy League championship series, led Yale to an opening-game victory over Big 10 Champion Nebraska in the NCAA Tournament and finished with 11 victories in 2017.
The 2017 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. I All-Region teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. I All-America Committee.
ABCA/Rawlings All-Region first-team selections are nominated for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors. The ABCA/Rawlings All-Americans will be announced on Saturday, June 17.
