Bill Asermely, captain of the 1993 Ivy League champion Yale squad which won a school-record 33 games, begins his eighth year as an assistant coach at his alma mater. He was promoted to Associate Head Coach prior to the 2008 season. The former outfielder (1989-1993) played in New Haven during head coach John Stuper's first year at the helm. Asermely was named first team All-Northeast and All-New England after his junior year and twice led the Bulldogs to NCAA Tournament appearances. A two-time All-Ivy selection, Asermely was signed by Baltimore and played a year with the Bluefield Orioles in the Appalachian League. He played and managed in the Swedish Baseball Federation for two years (1997-98) before taking an assistant coaching position at New York Tech. He spent two years at NYIT, concentrating on pitching, catching, baserunning, and strength and conditioning. In the office, he was responsible for scheduling and recruiting. In the fall of 2000, Asermely returned to Yale as a full-time assistant coach. His on-field responsibilities now include hitting, infield, catching, baserunning, and speed development. In the office, he serves as the recruiting coordinator, handles scheduling, and is a member of the Yale Baseball Association's Board of Trustees. Asermely is a 1993 Yale graduate with a degree in sociology. He resides in North Haven with his wife, Gina.
