June 10, 2005
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association has named Yale senior pitcher Josh Sowers its 2005 District I Player of the Year.
Sowers, a 10th-round pick of the Toronto Blue Jays in this week's baseball draft, had a senior season to remember for the Elis. The 2005 Ivy League Pitcher of the Year had a 6-1 record and 2.10 earned run average in nine starts.
The righthander averaged better than one strikeout per inning with 63 in 60 frames, while walking just 11 hitters for an average of 1.65 walks per nine innings. Sowers was a nominee for both the NCBWA 2005 preseason and '05 regular-season All-America teams and the Xanthus Dick Howser Trophy.
