Mangano, Team USA Off To Strong Start At World University Games

Routs Mexico 108-67 In Opener

SHENZHEN, China – Rising senior Greg Mangano and Team USA are off to a strong start at the World University Games. Mangano scored eight points and grabbed eight rebounds as the United States cruised to a 108-67 victory over Mexico in the opening game.

Mangano was 4-of-8 from the field in 14 minutes. He added one block, one assist and one steal. Four of his rebounds came on the offensive end.

Team USA led only 43-37 at halftime, but outscored Mexico 31-16 in the third quarter and 34-14 in the fourth.

In today's other Group D games, Israel (1-0) topped Hungary (0-1) 67-60 and South Korea (1-0) downed Finland (0-1) 92-71.

The USA will continue preliminary round pool play against Hungary at 3:30 p.m. (all times listed are China Standard Time, which is +12 hours from Eastern Time) on Aug. 14, before taking on South Korea at 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 15, Finland at 6 p.m. on Aug. 17 and Israel at 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 18.
