Dallier, Downey To Travel To China For Four Nation Games
Pair Named To World Vision Sports USA Select Team
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Two Yale men's basketball players will have the opportunity to play against international competition later this month. Rising sophomores Anthony Dallier and Sam Downey are part of the 2014 World Vision Sports USA Select team that will travel to China later this month for a nearly three-week tour.
The U.S. Select team will visit Chongqing, Guangzhou and Liaoning. The team will play in a four-nation tournament against teams from China, Slovenia and Australia. In addition, there will be games against Chinese professional teams.
"The trip offers a chance to play with and against high quality players from around the world," said Downey, who will be travelling outside the United States for the first time. "It will be a great way to compete and learn from them."
Dallier, who appeared in 26 games last winter, was the recipient of the team's John C. Cobb Award as rookie of the year.
"I absolutely believe this trip will benefit both me and Sam leading into next season," Dallier said. "It's an opportunity to practice and play games against good competition that most guys aren't going to get."
Downey, a 6-foot-9 forward, played in seven games for the Bulldogs as a freshman and shot 71.4 percent from the field.
