Hotaling is back for his fourth year as a full-time assistant to James Jones. He was a volunteer assistant at Yale in 1999-2000 before spending the 2000-01 season as an assistant at the University of New Haven. He also spent one season as an assistant at Adelphi.
Prior to his coaching career, Hotaling starred for four seasons at the University at Albany, where he earned a bachelor of arts degree in history in May of 1995. He earned his master's degree in sports management and administration from Adelphi. At Albany, Hotaling played for the 1993-94 Elite Eight team and was the 1994-95 team captain.
He played professionally in Europe for the Cardiff Phoenix Basketball Club in Cardiff, Wales and the Plymouth Rotolok Raiders in Plymouth, England.
