AT YALE: Wheat, an excellent athlete, appeared in six games off the bench last year. Against Old Westbury he made his only field goal attempt and finished with three points.
As a freshman, Wheat played a career-high 12 minutes and had two points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal in a victory over RPI. Against Cornell he scored three points in only five minutes.
AT SEVENTY-FIRST: Wheat was named the team Most Valuable Player his senior season at Seventy-First High School. He also was the team captain. Seventy-First was the North Carolina state runner-up in each of his last two years.
PERSONAL: Juan, born on Sept. 9, 1984, is the son of Juan and Mona Wheat. He is a political science major at Yale.
