PHILADELPHIA, Pa.- The Yale varsity took a 2.5 second win over Columbia on Philadelphia's Schuylkill River to reclaim the Blackwell Cup after a two-year hiatus. Yale also took wins in the second and third varsity eights and the four. The freshmen fell to Penn and Columbia.
The Yale varsity (3-1) took the premier event of the morning in a time of 5:41.3. Columbia finished second in 5:43.8 followed by Penn in 5:57.8.
The second varsity (3-1) followed that up with a win in 5:59.8. In second was Penn (6:09.4). Columbia rounded out the field in 6:10.0.
The third varsity (3-0) took a win over Penn, posting a 6:01.9 to the Quakers' 6:19.4.
The Yale 4V/2F four (2-0) also took a win over Penn (7:01.2 to 7:08.0)
Just falling short of a sweep, the Yale freshmen (2-2) came third to Penn (6:00.7) and Columbia (6:03.4) with a time of 6:15.0.
Next weekend the Bulldogs will host Princeton and Cornell at home for the Carnegie Cup.
