BOSTON - The rain and cold were nowhere to be found today as two Yale heavyweight crews rowed to top-five finishes at the Head of the Charles. The club four finished fourth out of 59 crews with a time of 17:40.378. The club eight finished fifth out of 42 crews with a time of 16:03.063.
Yale's club four started at the very back of one of the regatta's largest fields. By the two-mile mark, the Bulldogs had walked through five crews and would pass another before the finish. Peterborough Rowing Club won the event in 16:57.556; second place went to Union Boat Club and third was Riverside Boat Club. In fourth place, Yale's boat was the fastest collegiate crew in the club four event.
In the club eight, Yale's bow was the first across the starting line. The Bulldogs managed to hold off the other crews in their event for the majority of the race. In the third mile, Yale took a wide turn going into Eliot Bridge to yield to Harvard and Boston University. Harvard finished first with a time of 15:09.811 and Boston University took second with a time of 15:34.668.
The championship four and eight will race tomorrow afternoon.
