NEW HAVEN, Conn. – After a summer of hard training and a month of water practices, the Yale heavyweight crew team will finally get to race this Saturday, Oct. 8, at the 2011 Head of the Housatonic.  This regatta is Yale's traditional fall season opener, and the Bulldogs have done well in the past defending their home course.  Last year Yale fielded five eights that finished first, third, fourth, 10th and 11th.  The Bulldogs defeated crews from Marist and Williams, the latter of which is returning to race again this year.

As always the main event for the Bulldogs will be the eight.  The heavyweights have four boats registered in the Men's Collegiate 8+ IRA event, which is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.  The main competition for the heavyweights here will be Williams and the Yale lightweights.

The Bulldogs also have a score of small boats entered for Saturday.  Two boats are entered in the Men's Collegiate 4+ IRA event, which goes off at 2:25 p.m., as well as four pairs in the Open 2- event, starting at 9:50 a.m.  Final lineups, however, are to be determined.

A full list of events and registered crews can be found here.

Yale's Gilder Boathouse is located at 280 Roosevelt Drive in Derby, Conn.  Directions can be found here.
