NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale heavyweight crew team will face its first test of the spring racing season this Saturday, Mar. 24 when the Bulldogs play host to the Brown Bears.  Yale and Brown will each field three eights, culminating in the varsity eight event.

Two years ago the Yale varsity eight lost to Brown at home by just 1.8 seconds.  Last year, the Bulldogs closed that margin up to 0.43 seconds, but Brown still defended their home course on the Seekonk River.  The Bulldogs have been closing in on the Bears in years past, and this could very well be the year that the Bulldogs open their season strong and come out on top against Brown.

In the fall the Yale freshmen raced against the Brown freshmen in the Novice 8+ category at the Head of the Housatonic.  Yale finished first with a time of 15:05.2, with the first of two Brown boats coming in second with a time of 15:07.2.  A second Brown freshman eight finished fourth with a time of 17:19.0.

The heavyweights are the only team racing at home this weekend.  The order of events is as follows:

1F – 10:00 a.m.

2V – 10:15 a.m.

1V – 10:30 a.m.

Yale's Gilder Boathouse is located at 280 Roosevelt Drive in Derby, Conn.  Directions can be found here.

This year free live video coverage will be available for all of Yale's home races.  To watch streaming video online during the race, please visit:
