CAMDEN, N.J. – The Yale heavyweight crew team wrapped up the 2011-12 season Saturday on the third day of racing at the 110th IRA National Championship Regatta. The junior varsity eight won the third level final to finish 13th overall, while the varsity eight finished sixth in the petite for a 12th place overall finish. The Yale freshman eight had the best finish of the day for the heavyweights, placing fourth in the petite to finish 10th overall.
The first race of the day for the Bulldogs was the junior varsity third level final. Yale took a four-seat lead off the start and kept its bow in front for the entire race. At the finish line it was Yale in first with a time of 5:54.399, with Dartmouth and Drexel in a dead heat for second place with a time of 5:57.927. Gonzaga finished in fourth place with a time of 6:03.074.
In the freshman eight petite final Yale finished fourth in one of the best races of the day. Less than half a second separated the top three crews in the event, with Yale holding off Wisconsin to finish 10th overall.

In the varsity eight petite final Yale finished sixth with a time of 5:41.213. The Bulldogs finished in contact with fifth-place Penn (5:40.445) and were about a length back on Navy (5:38.745) in third place.
