NEW HAVEN, Conn. - A pair of former Yale rowers are gearing up to represent the United States in world championships later this month. Alexander Rothmeier '08, who helped Yale's lightweight varsity eight to a third-place finish at the IRA Championships this spring, will compete in the lightweight men's pair at the 2008 FISA World Rowing Senior and Junior Championships scheduled for July 22-27 in Linz-Ottensheim, Austria. Charlie Cole '07, who helped the Yale heavyweight varsity eight to a victory over Harvard as a senior, will sit in the U.S. men's eight that will row at the 2008 FISA Under 23 Championship scheduled for July 17-20 in Brandenburg, Germany.
Rothmeier will be paired with John Nichols. Rothmeier has considerable USRowing experience. He won a silver medal in the lightweight men's four at the 2005 National Championships and also won a silver in the men's junior eight at the 2003 National Championships.
Cole finished 14th in the men's quadruple sculls at the 2006 FISA Under 23 World Championships and placed fifth in the men's eight at the 2004 FISA Junior World Championships.
