Oxford Brookes Tops Yale In Prince Albert Challenge Cup Final At Henley
HENLEY-ON-THAMES, England - Yale's lightweight coxed four overcame a number of obstacles to reach the final of the Prince Albert Challenge Cup at the Henley Royal Regatta, but a bigger crew from Oxford Brookes University proved to be too much to handle. Oxford Brookes cruised to victory, finishing with a time of 7 minutes, 38 seconds, well ahead of the Bulldogs.
In the boat for Yale was coxswain Ian Schmertzler, Brendan McCook, Andrew Kaiser, Philip Lang and Daniel Ensslen.
"We had a good start, but had to put too much into it to stay with the more powerful and taller Brits," said Yale head coach Andy Card. "The final verdict was 'easily', not an easy thing for us to swallow, but Oxford Brookes was the better crew. The effort to row through Reading 'A' yesterday took a lot out of us."
Oxford Brookes was ahead at all the markers, the Barrier, Fawley and the finish.
