Lightweights Take on Dartmouth for Durand Cup
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Yale lightweight crew team will race Dartmouth for the Durand Cup on Saturday, Apr. 24. The annual Durand Cup race will be hosted by Dartmouth on the Connecticut River in Hanover, N.H. Yale has won the Durand Cup for the past two years, and the Y150 will look to build on its success from last weekend, to win the Durand Cup for the third year in a row.
In the past 15 years, the Elis have lost the Durand Cup only twice. At last year's Durand Cup regatta, the Bulldogs won all five races, including a big win in the varsity race by a wide margin of 7.3 seconds. The closest race of the day was the first freshman eight race, which Yale won by a margin of 1.8 seconds. Otherwise, the Bulldogs handily won the second varsity eight, the varsity four and the second freshman eight races. Exceptionally, the Elis' second varsity eight boat crossed the finish line 11.9 seconds ahead of Dartmouth.
This past weekend, Yale enjoyed many big victories. On Saturday, the lightweights took on Columbia and Penn in the annual Dodge Cup race, and defended the Dodge Cup for seventh straight year. Moreover, the Bulldogs won all four of the races that day, including the Second Varsity Eight, the Freshman Eight and the Third Varsity Eight. On Sunday, the Elis handily defeated Cornell in the varsity race for the second straight year. Yale also took home wins in the Second Varsity Eight and the Second Freshman Eight. Overall, the Bulldogs won seven of nine races for the weekend.
The Y150 aims to keep rolling on Saturday.
