NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale lightweight rowing team will travel to Princeton, N.J., on Sunday for the Princeton 3-Mile Chase. The college-only regatta, held on Princeton's Lake Carnegie, will feature all but one of Yale's EARC opponents, giving the Bulldogs the opportunity to test their relative speed against league competition before entering winter training.
The Bulldogs will also use the Princeton Chase as a chance to obtain valuable racing experience. In addition to its three entries in the varsity lightweight eight and one entry in the freshman lightweight eight, Yale will enter four lightweight fours and four pairs in the small boats competition, meaning that many Yale oarsmen will race twice on the day.
Yale's first varsity eight, in accordance with its fourth-place finish at last years' regatta, will start fourth in the varsity lightweight eights event, which begins at 10:30 a.m. The Bulldogs will begin the race in front of Delaware and behind Navy. The freshman eight, which includes the coxswain and all four oarsmen from the Head of the Charles champion lightweight four, will race at 11:00 a.m. The lightweight fours will race at 11:30 a.m. , and the pairs will race at 2:30 p.m.
