Lightweight Fours Finish First among Collegiate Crews

BOSTON – The two Yale lightweight fours finished as the top two collegiate crews in the lightweight fours event at the 47th Head of the Charles regatta, held in Boston. With near ideal weather, the two Yale fours finished second and third. Yale also raced a lightweight eight, finishing fifth in the lightweight eights event.

In the lightweight fours event, Yale earned second place in a time of 16:57.8, finishing only behind the New York Athletic Club, which posted a time of 16:29.7. In addition, the second Yale four finished in third place with a time of 17:09.9, giving the Bulldogs two boats in the top three. The two Yale boats were able to defeat their other EARC competitors, among them Navy, Penn, Georgetown and rival Harvard. This marks the second year in a row that two Yale crews have been the top two collegiate finishers in the event, as well as the seventh year in a row that Yale has earned the top collegiate time.

In the lightweight eights event, Yale finished fifth in a time of 15:03.6, improving on last year's ninth place finish. The Bulldogs just missed out on a fourth place finish, losing to Georgetown by 0.3 seconds, in a race that was won by US Rowing, the United States national team, in 14:27.7.

Yale will end its fall season next Sunday, Oct. 30, at the Princeton Three-Mile Chase, held on Lake Carnegie, in Princeton, N.J.
