Ferraro Elected Lightweight Captain

Will Ferraro

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale lightweight crew team has elected William Ferraro  as its captain for the 2012-2013 season. Ferraro, who sat in four seat of the varsity eight that finished third at the IRA National Championship, succeeds David Walker as the captain of the Y150. Ferraro called his election a "huge honor."

"I'm humbled to follow in the footsteps of the captains I've looked up to for the past three years, " said Ferraro. "From Brendan McCook, Andrew Hakanson, and David Walker-- but also from many of their classmates-- I've learned the importance of leading by example, of being a good communicator to the team and coach, and above all of having a positive attitude."

"I'm excited about pursuing championship speed with and for a team that has meant so much to me during my time at Yale," Ferraro continued. "We had a lot of success in 2012, as evidenced by our Jope Cup victory for overall lightweight supremacy, but last year was last year, and right now it's 2013."

After a successful rowing career at St. Paul's, Ferraro rowed in two-seat of the freshman boat, finishing fourth at Eastern Sprints. As a sophomore, the Wyndmoor, Pa., native, rowed in the junior varsity boat, finishing fourth at sprints. This past year, Ferraro used a strong offseason to earn a seat in the varsity, which finished fourth at Eastern Sprints before improving to third at the IRA National Championship.

Ferraro added a final message to the Y150: "Let's get to work!"
