NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale lightweight crew team will open its season with a race against Navy this Saturday, Mar. 31, on Lake Carnegie, in Princeton, N.J. The teams will race for the Johnson Cup. This mark the 10th year of the Johnson cup, with Yale leading the series five to four.
Navy represents an early season test for the Bulldogs, as Navy has been one of the Bulldogs' consistently dangerous opponents over the last few years. Last week, Navy opened its season with a race against Princeton, winning two of five races, but fell in the varsity race by 9.2 seconds.
This year, Yale is looking to bring home the Johnson Cup for the third straight year. Last year, the Bulldogs swept Navy, including a nine-second victory in the varsity race. Yale was also victorious in the second varsity, third varsity and first freshmen races.
The schedule of events is as follows:
3:00 PM: Third Varsity Four
3:20 PM: First Freshman Eight
3:40 PM: Second Varsity Eight
4:00 PM: First Varsity Eight
