DERBY, Conn. -- Yale lightweight crew travels to Boston, Mass., this Sunday for the 49th Head of the Charles Regatta. The regatta promises strong competition for all entries, and marks the first opportunity of the season for the Elis to face EARC competitors. The Bulldogs will be fielding four boats this weekend: two eights and two fours.
The two eights will be competing in the men's lightweight eight event, scheduled to come down the course at 4:38 p.m. Both eights will be faced with strong competition from across the league. Last year, the Harvard lightweights clocked in a strong performance to win the event, and will start first this year. Yale's first entry will start third behind Princeton. For the first time in two seasons, the Bulldogs will also enter a second eight-- which will start 17th.
The two lightweight fours will also take part in a highly competitive event, scheduled for 4:14 p.m. In recent years, the Y150 has had success in the fours: finishing both second and third in each of the last two seasons, after winning the event a season earlier. Both crews will be looking to recapture the title this year.
Much anticipation surrounds this weekend of racing, as all EARC teams look to establish themselves in the new season. After a strong start last weekend at the Head of the Housatonic, the Elis will seek to establish an upward trajectory for the months ahead.
