Lightweight Freshmen End Season on a High

Hanover, N.H. -- Yale's Freshmen rowers capped a successful fall season for the program on Saturday, at the Green Monster regatta. The Bulldogs posted the fastest time among lightweights, beating the majority of heavyweight crews in the process. After  strong team performances at the Head of the Charles and the Princeton Chase, the freshmen rowers went into the weekend looking to make their own mark-- something they certainly achieved.

Yale had two entries in the men's freshman event at the Green Monster. Yale's 'A' entry finished 1st among lightweights and 6th overall-- just one second out of fifth place-- in an impressive time of 14:49. Yale's 'B' entry was not far behind. They handled the challenge of passing several crews well, keeping their composure to cross the line in 15:15: 3rd among lightweights and 10th overall.

In addition to boasting the fastest single entry of the regatta, the results put Yale ahead of all other programs, with the fastest cumulative time of any lightweight program-- ahead of Dartmouth, Harvard and MIT. Overall, they posted third-fastest aggregate time of the regatta.

The freshman victory comes just a week after the first varsity won the Princeton Chase for the first time since 2008. That victory was complemented by strong performances across the entire squad, and at the Head of the Charles the weekend before.

As a result, optimism is high as the team moves toward winter training. The next few weeks will be spent on the water, before heading indoors for the remainder of the winter training period. The Bulldogs will be back in action with their spring season opener against Navy, in Princeton N.J., on March 29th.
