DERBY, Conn.— Spurred on by strong home support, Yale Lightweight Crew delivered victories across the ranks against Georgetown on Saturday. A strong performance by the first freshmen eight set the tone for the day's racing: their victory was followed by similar performances in the two varsity eights. Conditions were favorable, with a slight tailwind in the earlier races building throughout the day.

The first race of the day included two Yale entires— the first freshmen eight and third varsity eight— racing against the Hoya's third varsity. The first freshmen used a strong start to push away from the pack, moving out to an open water lead by the halfway mark. The third varsities remained locked in a close battle for 1500m, with Yale inching out as the race wore on. The Bulldog 3V maintained a strong rhythm to push away in the last 500m, crossing the line 5.8 seconds ahead of the Hoyas. The first freshmen continued to dominate after its strong start, winning the race in 5:50.43— fourteen seconds ahead of the Yale third varsity.

The second varsity event was next. After a smooth start, the Bulldogs settled into a consistent base speed as they continued to pull away from Georgetown. A strong finish saw them move further out, crossing the line in 5:38.85.

The final race of the day was the first varsity eight. Similar to the earlier races, the crew used a fast start to open up an early lead. Faced with challenging conditions, the crew continued to push away in the second thousand meters, winning the race in 5:36.72.

The Elis are back in action with a double header at home next weekend, battling both Penn and Columbia in the Dodge Cup on Saturday, before facing Cornell on Sunday.
