Elis Ready For Double Header
DERBY, Conn.— After sweeping Georgetown at home last Saturday, the lightweights are back in action on the Housatonic this weekend. In a busy weekend of action that will see all crews race three league rivals, the Elis will be looking to maintain their undefeated start to the season in the first freshmen, second varsity, and first varsity eights.
On Saturday, the Bulldogs will contest the Dodge Cup against Penn and Columbia. Having won the cup for the last 10 seasons, the crew will be looking to maintain its recent run of form. The Lions, after victory against Princeton last weekend, come into the race ranked second: one place behind the first-ranked Bulldogs. On Sunday, Yale squares off against third-ranked Cornell.
Sophomore Thomas Foster, two seat of the first varsity eight, spoke of his excitement for the busy weekend ahead.
"I'm especially excited to see how fast we can go as we test our speed against our rivals," Foster said.
Racing gets underway Saturday with the first freshmen eight, at 8:15am. Looking to improve on their victory last weekend against Georgetown, the freshman will be looking to defeat a tough Penn crew. There will be no freshman entry from Columbia.
At 9:00am, the first varsity eight takes to the course in a meeting of two undefeated boats. The Bulldogs face an impressive Columbia boat in what promises to be a close contest.
The second and third varsity eights round out Saturday's racing at 9:45am and 10:15am, respectively.
On Sunday, the Bulldogs bounce back against the Big Red. In a contest that typically produces close racing across the ranks, both teams will aim to get one up on their rivals. Racing on Sunday is as follows:
9:00 am: Third Varsity Eight
9:20 am: First Freshmen Eight
9:40 am: Second Varsity Eight
10:00 am: First Varsity Eight
A spectator bus for Saturday's racing will leave from Payne Whitney Gym at 7:30am.
