NEW HAVEN, Conn. — After a successful day on their home course last Saturday, the lightweights travel to Boston, Mass., this weekend for the annual Harvard-Yale-Princeton regatta. The Bulldogs enter the race ranked second, after a narrow defeat to Cornell two weeks ago; the Tigers are ranked fourth and the Crimson, fifth. With victory in the first varsity event, the Elis would win back the Goldthwait Cup: a trophy that has eluded them since 2006. Also contested will be the Vogel Cup, a team championship trophy, which Harvard has won for four straight seasons.

Last weekend brought victories across the ranks for the Elis. After losses to Columbia and Cornell, the third varsity got its season back on track with big victories over both Dartmouth and MIT. The first freshmen eight also had a productive weekend, racing against second varsity entries from Yale, Dartmouth, and MIT. Although they lost out to the Yale second varsity on both occasions, the freshmen were able to push away from the other second varsities with two encouraging performances. The first varsity— bouncing back after the loss to Cornell— secured two comfortable victories to climb to second in the national rankings.

The Goldthwait Cup is always a competitive encounter, and this year will be no exception. In last year's event, Yale led Harvard by a length crossing the thousand meter mark— only for the Crimson to snatch the race by 1.4 seconds late on. The Bulldogs will be looking to avenge that loss this weekend.

The Vogel Cup is similarly close, with memorable races across the ranks in recent years. Last year, the Yale first freshmen sprinted through a tough Princeton 1F in the last 500 meters on their way to a two-second victory. With Harvard's 1F currently ranked first, the underdog Elis will likely have to produce similar speed to topple the undefeated Crimson.

Racing gets underway in the Charles River basin at 7:24 a.m. A live feed of the racing will be available, and can be found here.
